independent presidential candidate in the upcoming 2016 presidential election, Jacob Osei Yeboah has shared his thoughts on movies produced in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News’ MzGee, Mr. JOY as he is affectionately called hailed glamour movies which features popular actors like Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, John Dumelo and others. He said there is gap between English and local movies mostly called Kumawood movies.
According to him, the English moviemakers are setting standards. Mr. Yeboah described such movies as classic because they provide consumers with good content.
Talking about the Kumawood movie industry, he said most of their productions are bad.
“I do follow Ghanaian movies a lot but there is vast range of levels. Those that are normally in English are always trying to setup some standards. Those that have Jackie Appiah and co in it are classic. You could see that the sound, background noise and quality in such movies.
But with the others, I don’t know what to say. If you go and shoot from a village point of view, it is the scenery that we want to watch but not the background noise. What I’ve realised is that when they shoot in the villages, the noise level is bad and sometimes the quality is also very bad.
The fact that you are going to shoot in the village doesn’t means you should have all these things in it” he noted.

When MzGee quizzed him if the fault also applies to the English movies, he replied, “it is the local dialect that you normally find some of these things. ”
JOY continued “To be honest with you, some of the scenes sometimes depict what is going on but they are a bit scary. The moment my kids see shrine and things like that, they runaway. What they are always depicting from the tradition religion is that over there, they destroy people, they kill people and they are all nasty.
Some of the things they show are true but are we not overdoing it? They depict some things to prove that whenever you are doing something and it is not going on well then it means there is a witch behind it. I don’t think that is helping our kids because instead of the person analysing why there is a failure, they will be blaming their parents for bewitching them.”
