Out-of-prison William Ramzy Amui, popularly known in showbiz as Ramzy, has said though his peers in the industry have had much success, he does not consider himself too late to make it to the top.
Ramzy emerged first runner-up in the first edition of Stars of the Future, a competition to unearth young music talents, which was won by Irene Logan, with Jane Awindor, now Efya, being named second runner-up.
Both artistes as well as a number of others who were discovered in the competition have gone on to more illustrious careers, becoming household names on the Ghanaian music scene.
Ramzy, whose musical career got off to a good start after making it to the final of the MNet Idols West Africa competition in Nigeria in 2007, was arrested a few days later in Ghana for armed robbery, an accusation he still denies. He was found guilty and sentenced with seven others to 10 years in prison in 2010.
The musician was released from the Nsawam prison in January 2017, having served his full term and has made his intention to re-launch his singing career.
Asked by host Andy Favoured on Accra100.5FM’s Gospel 360 on Sunday February 5, 2017 if he could catch up with his peers who have now moved on to greater fame and success in music while he begins from scratch, Ramzy said he was unfazed and was trusting the Lord to take him to even greater heights.
“…If we come out of the spiritual and look at the physical [side of] things, many will be compelled to say that I have lost so much. Looking at the people I began with – Irene, Efya, Chemphe, Aletse (Tinny) – those people have gone [far]. Kwabena Kwabena and all the others have progressed, so you would think I am behind but I have not fallen behind, I have not fallen behind at all. What God is coming to do, the glory of the latter shall surpass the former. So what God is about to do will be greater and it will be a surprise – it is not about competition. Right now, we want to praise God, we want our lives to speak, not our deeds,” he stated.
Ramzy was positive that his time behind bars was “confinement” designed by God in order to make things beautiful in His time.
He reiterated that he was “looking for the best production team to work with”, adding: “I am looking for a rich man to just call and say, ‘I will offer you this’ so I can enter the studio and bring out the best in me, and I want to have the opportunity to go nationwide, worldwide and then advise, minister unto people, speak to people and then let them know that they need to live their lives well. It’s very important to live a stable kind of life, not a staggering kind of life.”
