Is Wutah’s Reunion For Real?

Captain Planet of the trio 4×4, once in an interview with Sammy Flex on Pluzz 89.9fm stated categorically, without mincing words that as the LEADER of the trio, anytime they meet as a group, he never fails to admonish them on the need to stay together. He stated that doing music as a group in a way is like a union where there exist an interconnected bond.

He added that once various parties within the group decide to go their separate ways, there is also a certain spirit that depart from the respective members of the group as well, and in a trice, the group would fall apart completely and that in many cases, it has been difficult for members of split-up groups to be up and doing when they embark on their solo projects.

Fast forward, there have been several calls for the duo Wutah to come back together especially when their solo music careers have not made that impact as it did when they were together.

It’s been 7 years now when this astounding, superb, awesome, mesmerizing duo decided to go their separate ways. A close source told me that, prior to the two going their individual ways; they make him believe that the break up is just for a year.

Deciding to be a group is just like a marriage, it’s for better or for worse affair, both in good and bad fortune, and that whatever happens, you guys will still be together. Folks, I’m just short of words, I don’t even know how best to describe this group. It’s just something like a beggar’s description for me, I must admit.

So what really was the cause(s) of the break up? Was it jealousy, women, money, disagreement, ego or just what? I still can’t fathom why the duo Wutah would break up even in the first place.

Whatever the case is, in every group, there is one who stands out, so who failed to play his/her role well leading to break up of groups? Once upon a time, we’ve seen vibrant, show-stopper groups like TH4kwages, Praye, Buk Bak, Akyeame, Echo, Klala etc split up.

When Wutah’s break up story started circulating late May 2010, I remember Wutah Kobby who was then the leader of the duo, came out to clarify that, yes they agreed to work on their respective solo albums in a period of just a year, and after that they would work on a joint album to be released in the subsequent year. It’s been five (7) years now but I’m kinda sure their next year has not elapsed yet for that joint album to see the light of the day.

Product of Dansoman based, Wesley Grammar SHS, the two came into the limelight when they placed second to now defunct ‘Praye’ group at the maiden edition of Nescafe Africa Revelation Music Competition in 2004. It seems this Nescafe Africa Revelation Music Competition leads to split-up of a sort because the duo Echo of ‘Gologolo’ fame also went their separate ways about 3 years ago likewise Praye. Wutah had hit songs like Adonko, Big dreams, Gossy Gander, Burning desire, Kotosa among others.

This group amazingly had an unprecedented 11 nominations at the then MTN Ghana Music Awards in just a year under review which was equaled by Nacee just this year. This tells you the kind of group I’m writing about. You can’t go wrong with Wutah, their voice is just one of a kind-very unique, and I just love the way they fused the Ga, Twi, English in just a song and still flow to the maximum, and even when both went their separate ways, they have achieved some feat; Wutah Afriyie released amazing and award-winning songs like Love of my life, Tontonti, Go gaga ft. Sarkodie, Baby say I do, Everlasting love, likewise Wutah Kobby who also released awesome hit songs like Ambulance which featured rapper Sarkodie, Chio chio chio, Pii Por Pii among others.

Well, some few weeks ago, news started circulating that the duo are officially back this time around. We are all hoping it’s just not their usual talk-talk but this time around they are back for good.

Afriyie and Kobby, can’t you guys just eat your words, bury the hatchet and come back even stronger together? Because of your split, you guys lost all your ambassadorial deals, just look at the several calls that have been placed for you guys to come back together, it’s all because of the love that we as your fans have for both of you. You guys should think about your fans, the money, the fame, etc. Chale, we need you guys back!!!!

Indeed, UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL!
