Ghana’s biggest rap export, Sarkodie is not hoping to change the style of the two artistes he has so far signed onto his label, SarkCess Music.
Rather, the rapper, born, Michael Owusu Addo, plans to help remain themselves and grow.
In March last year, Sarkodie’s music label signed its first act, Gladstone Akwaboah Jnr., popularly known as Akwaboah.
Just a year after that, it has also signed a second act, rapper Strongman to the family.
During the signing ceremony for Strongman, Sarkodie noted that “Finally, we are having this meeting today. It’s been in the pipeline for a while. If you ask who my favourite Mc at the moment is, it’s Strong Gee (Strongman). It’s really hard for a rapper to listen to his fellow rapper but I can say on a regular basis, this guy (Strongman) finds a way to amaze me. I’ve always been a fan.”
Answering a question if he intends changing the style of any of the acts he has signed so far, Sarkodie told Joy Prime’s Ibrahim Ben-Bako that the two artistes – he calls his “colleagues” – will maintain what they are known for. “I don’t intend to change any of the artistes… it’s just that when I have had the opportunity to be in the game for a while, its only right that I turn back to help them get to the level they want to get to,” he explained.
The ‘RNS’ rapper added that, “So I’m not looking at changing anything about Strongman or Akwaboah. They just have to do whatever they were doing that caught my attention and I will just put a magnifying glass on them…”
Asked what the future holds for SarkCess Music in terms of signing more artistes onto the label, Sarkodie explained that he will do that one at a time.
“We have great artistes…but when it comes to signing, it comes with a lot and if you want to really do it well it is one at a time, take your time and push them out there…I don’t really like to crowd my whole team with lots of talent. I like to help by talking to them sometimes and if I can sign them, I do sign,” the award-winning rapper added.
