While all men can father a child, there is so much more a father can do in a child’s life.
According to Veteran Nigerian actor, Richard Mofe Damijo aka RMD, to be a father is a lot of investment which involves time, emotional, spiritual, as well as financial responsibilities.
RMD in an Instagram post said fathers should not only be biological parents, but also mentors to their young ones.
He described mentorship as one of the prerequisites of an individual and should be taken seriously.
“I believe Mentoring is essential and can define a person’s future. The best or the worst thing that can happen to anyone is the mentor they get because your mentor influences, imparts, impacts and in more ways than one, defines you”, he said in his post.
The former Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State Nigeria, reiterated that being a mentor/father comes with its own burdens but he “bursts” with pride when people he mentored end up being successful.
“I want to teach and mentor not for the heck of it but so I can possibly reproduce “mini me’s” who would pay it forward by mentoring others which is why I burst with pride… when I look at people like @alibabagcfr and see the mentor he has become to many young people, and every time he calls me “OSE” or “BROS” my heart fills with joy knowing that I am a little part of his amazing journey”, he added.
In view of the above, the veteran actor who affirmed he will be ‘adopting’ lots of young people this year advised that, his ‘future babies’ do not have to be talented or extra ordinary but commitment is the key to achieving their dreams.
“This year, 2017, I’ll be adopting a lot of young people….You do not have to be talented to be my son/daughter, you just have to be committed.”
