Celebrated music producer Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has bemoaned the lack of dedication given to unearthing new talents in the country.
He noted that if the situation is not looked at and resolved, there may not be experienced artistes to take over from the current crop of music stars.
Appietus said the situation is so dire that exportable artistes currently in Ghana are not even up to 100.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix with Doreen Andoh Tuesday, the ‘Azonto Fiesta’ hit producer urged that industry practitioners, as a matter of urgency, look at nurturing fresh talents.
“In Ghana if we want to export artistes out of this country, we won’t get 100. It’s sad. In Nigeria, I’m sure you will get over 100 and it’s not population wise. I mean we are almost 30 million people and we can’t get 100 people to represent Ghana, there are more than 100 countries in the world so if we have to take an artiste to one country, we might not be able to do it and its bad,” he lamented.
Appietus added that, “If you take Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, EL, Edem… they are not even up to 50 probably 20 maybe [and] it’s bad. If we don’t brew new talents, it will not be good.”
