The premiere of the much-anticipated film, Divine Intelligence, took place at the popular Odeon Cinema in Greenwich, London, on night of Friday, the 22nd of July, 2016.
The successful event attracted high-profile personalities from various industries and professions. In attendance were religious ministers, film producers, actors, authors, media personnel and some politicians.
The film really lived up to the hype. When the film was described as a Christian film during publicity, some were of the opinion that it might be boring. Moreover, when its description said it aimed at “exposing corrupt practices of charlatans”, it came to light that it raised concerns among some preachers who feared the film was going to do a lot of damage to their work.
Sammy Ankrah, the writer, director and producer of the film, in various interviews and blog posts prior to the premiere, had, however, dismissed these perceptions and assured viewers of a thought-provoking, indulging, educative and entertaining piece full of subtle humour and suspense. And he did not disappoint!
“This is not a high-end Hollywood production although substantial investment has gone into the production; but for the film to go through the British Board of Film Classification process to receive a certification for public showing in the UK, even in cinemas, must tell you that even the strict BBFC identifies with it” – Sammy Ankrah said in one of such interviews.
And truly it was so. The just over 2-hours film finished without the audience knowing they had sat down watching the film for that long, with some asking for episode 2 of the film to watch there and then, if it was available.
Long as a few individual scenes were, the quality of their content made this virtually unnoticeable.
Right from the beginning to the end of the film, there were rapt concentrations, giggles, gasps, anxiety, laughter and sometimes even shouts from the audience, as the various scenes unfolded.
The story line was clear, but it was craftily interspersed with other linked, relevant humorous scenes that made the production stand out.
The film has been described by the patrons as a masterpiece production and a must-watch, with Sammy Ankrah, the creator of the film, being described as a genius.
Further premieres of the film possibly in other parts of the UK (by popular requests), Ghana, Nigeria, etc., are expected soon.
