The Asanteman Council of North America (ACONA) celebrates the 2016 Asante Day at RAMADA Hotel in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th. It is being hosted by the Asanteman Association of Greater Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Asante Day is an annual event organized by ACONA, which is the umbrella organization that coordinates the activities of the various Asanteman associations in North America which comprises the United States and Canada. ACONA has been supported by the MANHYIA PALACE since it’s establishment, which dates back in the early eighties. MANHYIA has always been encouraging it’s Swearing in and installation ceremonies as the diasporas strive to portray the Asante culture in the United States and Canada.
The Asante Day event has been permanently established to take place over the Labor Day weekend every year. This is the time the general assembly organizes open forum for members to discuss matters of common interest and also make major decisions for the organization.
It is also an opportunity to portray the Asante Culture. It is during this event that members and the guests experience moments of cultural excellence. Here the Chiefs, Sub-chiefs, the Queens and Sub-queens in the various associations dress up in their elegant traditional clothes, like Kente, Adinkra etc, enter the hall in an orderly fashion, take the floor one after the other and show their traditional dancing skills, as they dance to the traditional processional music and drum beats before taking their seats.
As has been in previous years, a major project would be unveiled during this year’s upcoming event. This would further underscore ACONA’s determination to contribute to the socio economic development projects in Ghana, especially in the Ashanti region. A fundraising dinner dance in support of the project would be the climax of the occasion.
