Nana Adusei Atwenewa Ampem I, the Omanehene of Tepa Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, will lead a powerful delegation to represent the Asantehene, His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at a major cultural event in Columbus, Ohio.
The Asanteman Day, an annual cultural event that actively promotes and celebrates the unity, culture and history of the Asantes in North America, will take place on September 3-4, 2016 at the Ohio Expo State Fair Rhodes Center, 717 East 17th Avenue, Columbus Ohio 43211.
The organizers have planned the following activities:
i) Saturday, September 3, 2016 (daytime): a Grand Durbar and Cultural Show will take place at the Ohio Expo State Fair Rhodes Center, 717 East 17th Avenue, Columbus, Ohio.
ii) Sunday, September 4, 2016 (daytime): Asante Congress and Delegates Forum in a Town Hall format where general discussions on socio-economic issues affecting Asanteman and development projects will be held. Otumfuo’s Representative and delegates of member associations will take and respond to questions.
iii) Sunday, September 4, 2016 (evening time): a Grand Fundraising Dinner Dance will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Columbus, Ohio where attendees will have the pleasure and honor of dining and sharing the dancing floor with Otumfuo’s Representative and the Asante Royals and Dignitaries. The event will be chaired by Professor Samuel Akainya, a distinguished law lecturer at the University of Chicago in Illinois
Nana Odiasempa Antwi Boasiako , the chief of Asanteman of Columbus has urged the Ghanaian community in the Columbus metro, area and also in North America, to come in their numbers to grace this wonderful occasion.
“The Asanteman of Columbus will make the tradition, culture and the durbar as an all inclusive cultural event and it’s also going to be a memorable day”, Nana Antwi Boasiako noted.
Paapa Kwame Yeboah, aka AGANI, the affable and workaholic President of Asanteman of Columbus, disclosed that this year’s Asanteman Day will be a “Mother of all Asanteman Day” events. He noted further that the theme for the Asanteman Day is Unity, Peace, Stability, and Development.
The primary purpose of the Asanteman Day celebrations is two fold.
1. Educating the general public about the traditions and culture of an indigenous African people that have had a worldwide impact on civilization – namely, the Asante Kingdom; Showcasing the rich Asante Culture with the objective of inculcating core “Asanteman” Values into nurturing our young ones so as to maintain a sustainable community of responsible citizens as well as strengthening their emotional attachment to the Asante Kingdom in any social and economic phenomenon, and
2. Establishing a network of Asantes, friends and sympathizers of Asantes in the Diaspora to help support; initiate businesses and development projects for the well-being and development of Asante Kingdom in particular and Ghana in general.
The Asanteman of North America embraces key Asanteman associations and individuals in some cities/states in North America, including Columbus, Ohio; New York, NY; Cincinnati, Ohio; Washington, DC; North Carolina; Dallas – Forth Worth, Texas; Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Chicago, Illinois
and Toronto, Canada. Asanteman of North America works to harness the collective resources of its members to provide socio-economic assistance to Asantes in Ghana and North America.
