A leading member of the New Patriotic Party in Germany, Mr Francis Brenya-Benson has noted that Ghana under President John Dramani Mahama has become a sinking ship that requires an immediate rescue team to salvage it from its present predicament.
Addressing a gathering of Ghanaians at an “MPUSUO and BARBECUE” Party in Dortmund over the weekend, Mr Brenya-Benson was very critical of the failure by the Mahama-led government to sustain the economic gains made during the eight-year reign of President John Agyekum Kuffour and the New Patriotic Party.
He explained that the crisis facing Ghana is not due to lack of resources but the result of leadership failure and unprecedented level of corruption that has become the norm at the highest level of government including the office of the President.
Mr Brenya-Benson, who is also the Research Officer of the Germany Branch of NPP, insisted that in terms of resources, the current government has received more revenue and also borrowed more than any other government in the history of the country and yet has little to show for all these massive resources adding “this is the only government to have received $3 billion in oil revenue for the past three years”
According to him, with all these resources, the least Ghanaians expect is an improvement in their lives, but the exact opposite has happened as the ordinary Ghanaian has become poorer due to high tariffs on all utilities such as electricity, gas and water and said the current state of affairs is unacceptable because Ghanaians do not deserve to be in this precarious situation.
Mr Brenya-Benson said Ghanaians have the opportunity to reverse this downward spiral in the fortunes of the country on December 7 2016 by electing a new team under Nana Addo-Dankwa Akuffo-Addo adding “ The Ship of the state is sinking and it is our responsibility to save it now”.
He assured Ghanaians that an Akuffo-Addo led government will provide honest leadership and make prudent use of the country’s resources for the benefit of all Ghanaians and not just party cronies and friends as is the case under President John Mahama who has turned the country into a family business.
