Prices of foodstuff are on the rise during the Xmas period
With the onset of the festive period comes hikes in the prices of food stuff especially the essential Christmas goodies.
A visit to most markets across the Greater Accra Region show that majority of Christmas dinner essentials and other food stuff including poultry, rice, oil, confectionary among others increased to about 30 percent a few days to the holidays.
Citi Business News Reporter Anita Arthur who visited various markets in the capital city Accra reports that it will cost a family of four at least 600 hundred cedis to buy food stuff to cook a full meal of (Goat meat tomato stew and rice )with dessert (Danish cookies medium size and coke) on Christmas day.
So how much are you likely to pay for some essential Christmas foodstuff across markets in Accra during the festive period?
Goat (medium size) – 300 cedis
Goat (large size) – 450 cedis
Chicken layer (female) – 35 cedis
Chicken layer (male) – 65 cedis
Chicken broiler (medium) – 30 cedis
Rice (50Kg) – 110 cedis
Rice (25Kg) – 200 -280 cedis
Rice (1 Kg) – 9 cedis
Tin tomatoes (2200 gms) – 17 cedis
Tim tomatoes (400grms) – 4 cedis
Cooking oil (25 litre/gallon) – 130 cedis
Cooking oil (5 litre) – 45 cedis
Cooking oil (1 litre) – 13 cedis
