Emerging Markets Power-Ghana, (EMP-Ghana), a company that is into wind energy production, is to establish a wind farm to generate 75 megawatts of power at Osudoku in the Shai-Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region.
The project seeks to contribute to renewable energy generation to help ease the country’s prevailing power challenges.
To create awareness of the project, the management of EMP-Ghana organised a sensitisation meeting with the chiefs and people of Osudoku Traditional area at Osuwem.
Meeting
The Executive Director of the project, Mr Felix P. Quansar, explained that the meeting formed part of the environmental requirements of the project.
It was also to solicit the support and concerns of the people in the successful implementation of the project which would promote social and economic activities in the area.
And according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the project, Mr Diarmuid Twomey, feasibility works started last year but operations would begin from 2021.
The project involves land acquisition, grid connection, engineering design, wind measurements and power purchase agreements, among other things.
Appreciation
The Paramount Chief of Osudoku Traditional Area, Nene Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Kwesi Animle VI, expressed appreciation to the management of the company for choosing his traditional area for the project.
He said the area lacked social amenities such as roads and schools, thus hampering the accelerated development of Osudoku,
He added that “the area has been completely cut off from the Greater Accra Region in disguise.”
Nene Animle VI expressed the hope that the realisation of the project would attract investors to the area to the benefit of the people.
The chief further stressed the need for the indigenes of Osudoku to be given priority in appointments by investors in the area.
