The Tema chapter of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce has held its maiden workshop for the year 2017.
The Ghana Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) is an association of business operators, firms and industries with interests spanning every sector of private enterprise in Ghana.
The workshop was aimed at building the capacity of businesses in order to better position them to take advantage of the opportunities available in the new political administration of the country to expand businesses and create more jobs.
Professor. John B. K. Aheto, Professor in Accounting and Finance, GIMPA noted that 2017 is already showing signs of being a strong year of growth and thus urged businessmen and women to invest for growth or face going under.
He charged businesses to adopt integrity and truthfulness in the discharge of their duties.
“The contract that you are signing, is it the right contract for you and for the other party because if you try to cheat the other party then remember you may win a temporal benefit but the other party later on might find out you have cheated them so we need to deal with everybody with integrity and honesty,” he said.
A Media and PR practitioner, Samuel Agyemang who made a presentation on communicational media and business urged businesses to take advantage of the myriad opportunities social media presents so as to position their businesses on a high pedestal.
“If you have never been communicating, know that you will hide in that corner for a long time and all the opportunities that exist in 2017 will elude you. You need to have the courage to approach the public. Your organization need to have the courage to approach the public otherwise we continue to see you the same way and you will not take advantage of the opportunities that exist,” he said.
Teki Akuetteh Falconer, Executive Director, Data Protection Commission took participants through data protection principles.
