The minister of Transport Mr. Kwaku Amankwaah Ofori Asiamah and members of his Ministry have paid a visit to the Western Regional Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The visit was intended to initiate a working relationship and also familiarize himself with operations of his agencies.
Mr. Emmanuel T. K Narh, the western regional manager of DVLA in a speech said the agency is looking forward to a lasting relationship with the ministry.
Since his appointment, a thorough investigation has been carried and several challenges have been identified; such as office accommodation, unavailability of a fence wall to enhance security, deplorable nature of field operations and inadequate staff. Also, office space is not sufficient to accommodate staff and visitors, creating congestion.
Mr. Narh said some occupant on their premises have refused to relocate even though strong measures have been applied and some occupants have remained adamant. This has also become a serious challenge. The oil exploration, Port Expansion and springing up of related businesses have resulted in an increase in human and vehicular population in the region.
By making a request to the Ministry, Mr.Narh asked for a new office to accommodate the human and vehicular population and assist the DVLA with vehicular inspection equipment like modern brake testers, beam alignment machines, exhaust gas analyzers etc. to provide international standard to ensure safety.
He also pleaded that facilities will be extended to the region to ensure good driving standards in the country.
Addressing the management and staff, the minister of Transport Mr. Kwaku Amankwaah Ofori Asiamah said his visit is to familiarize with the operations under the ministry and listen to their concerns and to plan and improve activities. He promised to work hand-in-hand with the agency to resolve the issue of office accommodation.
Also present at the visit was the Director of Takoradi Port Capt. Afadzi, Mrs. Asana Owu, deputy chief executive of Ghana Shipper’s Authority and the members of the Media.
