Ghana will soon have a single window portal to ease the business registration process in Ghana, Business Minister, Ibrahim Awal Mohammed has stated.
According to Mr. Mohammed, the portal will interconnect all government agencies involved in the business registration process, removing the frustration and cost implication of moving from one agency to the other before starting a business.
‘What we want to do is to have a collaborated meeting with all government agencies and institutions that are involved in business registration process to set-up a single window one-stop-point for people to register their businesses’
He added that Ghana’s current World Bank ranking on ease of doing business, 109th, is worrying, adding that his ministry will work assiduously to improve on the ranking.
Starting a business in Ghana requires an applicant to apply for a certificate of commencement and incorporation at the Registrar General’s department, apply for a Tax Identification Number at the Ghana Revenue Authority, and submit the needed Certification to the Commissioner of Oaths to authenticate. There remains a number of processes that the applicant needs to go through even after these rigorous ones.
Ghana’s rank on ease of doing was 108th after the World Bank revised the rankings in accordance with a change in the methodology of its annual report.
