Former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi has said reviving VALCO now to begin full production of aluminium in the country will not be the best option for the country.
Prof Ahwoi made the observation in Accra today at a breakfast meeting with Professionals organised by the Chief of Staff and his campaign team.
Prof Kwamena Ahwoi explained that VALCO imports bauxite for the production of aluminium thereby making the cost of production high.
He said the best option for the country is to first get major investors to exploit the bauxite resources in the country to feed VALCO to produce aluminium at a comparatively lower cost.
Answering a question from a participant on the need to properly resource the Ghana Library Authority to function efficiently, Prof Ahwoi advocated decentralisation of Library services to enable the District Assemblies manage the libraries by resourcing them to be more efficient.
The Chief of Staff Mr Julius Debrah said VALCO is making efforts to produce power for its operation in partnership with an Independent Power Producer.
