President John Mahama has finally broken his silence on the Terminal handling charges ordering a stop to the charges at Ghana’s ports.
According to him, the charges have no legal basis and must be stopped with immediate effect.
“There is been concerns about the numerous fees charge at our port of entry and that is why I take the complaint of the Ghana Association Industry (AGI) very seriously. Am advised that, there is no legal bases, absolutely no legal bases for the Terminal Handling Charges that are currently being leveled, and the Honorable Minister of Transport has written expressly to stop this charge. This must be implement immediately,” he warned.
The president gave the order during the celebration of the 1st anniversary of the national single window and the launching of the Ghana import, export and transit process manual.
His order follows countless directives by Transport Minister Fifi Kwetey for all shipping lines in the country to stop these charges.
However, the companies appear to be flouting the Minister’s directives. The president said the time has come for all unapproved charges at the ports to be stopped.
