A former minister of communication in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has described the targets of president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as unachievable and unrealistic.
He believes those ambitions and visions can only be met if the president chooses to tax Ghanaians more, sack workers or freeze employment, borrow more and may be refuse to honour debt servicing obligations that is when he could be on track to achieve his objectives.
Commenting on the President’s state of the nation’s address he said it was characterized by more questions than answers and shared his opinion on his facebook page;
He added “Per President Akufo Addo’s own submission, revenue targets were not achieved mainly due to declining commodity prices , dumsor etc. Once revenue targets were not acheived then deficit gaps occur.
The difference between NDC’s dificit gap and Kufour’s deficit gap was that NDC expenditures were in long term capital projects that don’t necessarily move in tandem with revenue and hence it is impossible to cut them down once revenue gaps occur.
