The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim North, Mr. Andy Appiah-Kubi, has announced plans to build three food processing factories in the constituency to create jobs and wealth for the people.
These would be engaged in the production of plantain chips, processing of tomato into paste and watermelon juice extraction.
The MP told journalists in Agogo that he was in talks with an Indian Company to get the factories started.
This ties in with the government’s one-district one-factory policy.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi said it would end the situation, where plantain, tomatoes and watermelon, produced in large quantities often got rotten because of the lack of market.
He said the farmers would now be assured of ready market and this would inspire many young unemployed people to go into agriculture.
He added that the factories would also be hiring people and that was likely to improve livelihoods.
Mr. Appiah-Kubi said every effort would be made to stop the destruction of food crop farms and water bodies by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle.
