Minister for the newly created Ministry of Investment and Business, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has announced plans to heavily invest in Ghana’s private sector if approved by parliament According to him, the private sector if managed well, will help solve the country’s high unemployment problems as well as attract foreign investments which will speed up the growth of Ghana’s economy.
Speaking shortly after President Nana Akufo-Addo named him as Minister for Investment and Business, Mr. Awal assured that his ministry will build the capacity of the private sector in order to create more jobs.
“You know the private sector constitutes about 99% of businesses in this country so the essence of the office is to help improve the capacity of the private sector so that they can deliver” “If the private sector is productive, efficient and competitive, we will be able to expand, create jobs and employ the people.
As you are aware the unemployment level in this country is very high and one of the campaign issues we had was with employment” he added. He stated that the private sector if properly positioned will absorb the high number of graduates churned out by the country’s universities.
“One of the biggest challenges we face in this country is unemployment. The ministry is supposed to make sure that we capacitate the private sector, help them improve the businesses and expand the scope so that they can employ more people” he said.
Role of the ministry President Nana Akufo-Addo announcing Mr. Awal’s nomination said the key feature of the newly created ministry will be to ensure the growth of the business community as well as deal with its challenges.
