The Private Sector has been challenged to look at innovative ways of adding value to the country’s local produce for the larger export market.
President John Dramani Mahama, threw the challenge when he toured facilities of the Pioneer Bamboo processing company at Assin Fosu in the Central region. The visit is one of a series he will be embarking on to encourage local entrepreneurs.
President Mahama,again pledged governments support to help local industries expand and create jobs. Later President Mahama, inspected progress of work on the Kotokraba market and the Cape Coast sports stadium.
President Mahama also visited the scene of a Diesel Tanker explosion which saw some traders lose their wares. Radio Ghana’s Correspondent Pascaline Adadevoh reports that the Pioneer Bamboo processing Company began production fifteen years ago but has not been able to do much due to lack of funds.
The company produces furniture, beds, window blinds, cabinets and toothpick, which is imported at huge cost. What the company needs is support from government to produce on large scale for export as well.
The Chief Executive of the Company Gladstone Agbolosu’s call to the President is for financial support to enable him to expand and employ more people. currently the company is able to employ just ten people
President Mahama, said Ghana’s first president Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, will smile in his grave if his vision to see a thriving local industry comes into fruition and government aligns with that vision as well.
He said the high unemployment rate will be a thing of the past if individuals take interest in entrepreneurship.
President Mahama encouraged young persons to access the recently launched Youth Enterprise Support programme and other such youth programmes
The Potsinhene of the Assin Fosu Traditional area Nana Kyeremanteng, seized the opportunity to appeal to President Mahama to rehabilitate some few bad roads in the area. He also asked for a Midwifery school constructed by the community to be accredited quickly.
President Mahama assured them that a Japanese assistance which has been sought will go into constructing some of the roads in the Assin Fosu township.
Meanwhile President Mahama has inspected progress of work on the Kotokuraba Market and the Cape Coast Sports stadium.
He announced that sod will officially be cut on October 1, for work to start on the Kotokuraba market.
The Cape Coast Stadium currently under construction will be completed by August next year.
