The Institute for Fiscal Studies has held a pre-budget forum to among others, highlight key issues that need prominence as Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Ata prepares to present the 2017 budget of Ghana.
The forum also looked at the several promises of the governing New Patriotic Party and how the implementation of these promises will likely affect the budget and indeed, the country’s economy.
Ghana’s economic growth with emphasis on critical trade and industry was also looked at at the pre-budget forum.
The current government in its campaign during the 2016 elections promised to improve the economy by increasing revenue and cutting taxes.
The NPP government also promised to implement free education at the secondary level, construct a dam in every village in the 3 Northern regions of the country, provide 1 million dollars to every constituency in Ghana and also build a factory in every district in Ghana.
