President John Mahama has strongly defended his administration’s record of tackling unemployment.
Taking his turn at the Ghana Presidential Encounters 2016 organised by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra on Wednesday, the president said his administration had taken steps to improve vocational and technical education, which he said had created thousands of jobs for Ghanaians.
He said the government had also created an atmosphere that supports entrepreneurs, undertaken several infrastructural projects and revived defunct factories.
He said the government had, for instance, invested $1 billion dollars to expand the Tema Port, stressing that the project will create 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and 5,000 jobs when the project is completed.
He said his administration had also built the Accra Digital Centre, which he said had the potential to create 12,000 jobs.
The president urged unemployment members of the public to take advantage of the economic opportunities available to them.
He gave the assurance that the government’s efforts to grow the economy would create more opportunities for Ghanaians.
