The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said the government is exploring avenues to team up with private investors to establish a cement factory at Gbanda in the East Mamprusi District in the Northern Region.
The move, he said, would be part of the government’s one-district, one-factory initiative to create jobs for the youth in the area.
“The East Mamprusi District is endowed with limestone deposits at Gbanda and these can be exploited for the benefit of the people of the area,” he stated.
The Vice-President said this in response to an appeal by the Paramount Chief of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Nayiri Naa Bohugu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, when he paid a courtesy call on the Nayiri at his palace at Nalerigu last Saturday as part of his visit to the Northern Region.

Dr Bawumia also assured the traditional authorities that the Nalerigu-Gambaga road would be tarred by the close of this year.
He said the government would also fulfil its $1million-per-constituency promise to facilitate development in many rural areas.
He also pledged the commitment of the government to partner traditional authorities to foster peace in the Northern Region.
