A lead economist at the African Development Bank Dr. Ernest Addison is set to take over as the new governor of Bank of Ghana, sources say
Government has settled on him following the decision of the current governor, Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku to step down effective April 1, citing personal reasons. He has rejected reports that he was forced out.
Dr. Addission’s appointment is expected to be formally announced today by Government, after the Council of State’s approval. The Bank of Ghana is also expected to issue a statement on current developments at the Central Bank.
Work Experience
Dr. Addison joined the African Development Bank in May 2011 and has worked as a lead economist.
Before joining the AfDB, Dr. Addison was a Director of Research at the Bank of Ghana from 2003 to 2011. He was also the Chief Economist at the West African Monetary Institute from 2003-2011
Educational Background
Dr. Addison holds BA in economics from the University of Ghana Legon from 1982 to 1986. He also holds a Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) from University of Cambridge from 1987 to 1989 and a PhD in Economics from McGill University from 1989 to 1993.

Banking Consultant Nana Otuo Acheampong told JOYBUSINESS even though, he is surprised by the News, he thinks that it was the prudent decision by Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku.
He said if it is established that the Akufo-Addo administration was not prepared to work with him, as governor of the Bank of Ghana, it would not be surprising.
