As the elections get closer, one would expect that domestic aviation traffic will be on the rise as people move to their constituencies to vote across the country.
Checks by Citi Business News has gathered that patronage of domestic air travel is low as compared to road transport services.
A visit to some bus terminals in Accra for example revealed how passengers were stranded at the various stations due to the unavailability of buses.
The situation is however different from the domestic aviation industry where only a few people are traveling by air.
In an interview with Citi Business News, the Chief Executive Officer of local airline, Starbow, Eric Boasiako expressed optimism in the records of domestic flights picking up.
He said that businesses may pick up soon as most passengers have booked flights for this evening and tomorrow morning.
“For this morning’s flight it has been very quiet. We have not had many passengers trying to go to Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale this morning but I believe that this afternoon’s batch will take a lot of passengers,” he said.
He stated that some of the travelers may use the afternoon flights to move to different parts of the country.
“Those who are going to vote will probably go with the afternoons. And some will also be leaving tomorrow morning for the various destinations. I know a lot of them will be going this evening because the numbers are picking up this afternoon,” he said.
He was of the opinion most of the travelers will go tomorrow morning and return the same day.” he stated.
