The Bus Rapid Transit is rolling out a week-long free ride on selected routes in Accra from Monday September 26, 2016, to test the readiness of the service.
The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE) which is managing the system says the free service is being piloted on one of the four routes earmarked for the Ayalolo service – Amasaman through Achimota to Circle and to the Central Business District at Tudu – before its extension to the other routes.
GAPTE’s head of marketing and communications, Roland Bruce, said the pilot will be carried out to know the times commuters are wont to ride on the buses.
The Bus Rapid Transit system is expected to bring the public greater options and flexibility in road transport.
The improved transportation system is supported with some 116 buses designed to allow for easy access by persons with disability.
