There have been reports that the BoG plans to issue new cedi notes.
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has denied issuing new Ghana Cedi notes.
Samples of new Ghana cedi notes in denominations of GHC30, GHC100 and GHC200 flooded social media over the weekend and raised a lot of eyebrow and panic.
But in a response, the Bank of Ghana called for calm and said they don’t have plans of introducing any new currencies.
It explained it has not printed or issued any new Cedi denomination neither was it in the process of issuing one.
“It’s not true,” head of public affairs Esi Hammond said Monday morning. “The Bank is not issuing any new denomination,” she said.
She gave the assurance that “the security agencies will know what to do, but we can assure you that we haven’t done that and we are not in the process of doing it.”
The spokesperson said they follow strict procedures in releasing photos and security features of new currency denominations and will not resort to social media to make such announcement.
Hammond added: “We haven’t engaged the media to even inform the whole country about anything. Disregard it and I think someone has decided to test their skill on some of these designs.”
