The District Chief Executive Officer for Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region has promised to help revive the collapsed and abandoned Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL) to create jobs.
Samuel Kwame Agyekum said the ATL if revived, will create jobs for thousands of unemployed youth but it is being utilized. The DCE gave the promise in an interview with Onua FM after his confirmation as the president’s nominee for the Asuogyaman District. Mr. Kwame Agyekum had an overwhelming endorsement of the assembly with 47 votes out of 52 assembly members, representing 90.33%.
In all, 52 assembly members, comprising fifteen appointees and thirty-six elected members voted in an election which was supervised by the Electoral Commission. Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Ahadzi, the Director of Ports and Harbours, Paul Ansah Asare, the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Constituency, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, traditional leaders, among others.
Mr. Agyekum said he will work within the manifesto of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) by implementing the policies that would develop the country and the district. Tourism development Mr. Agyekum added that the district has several tourism potentials such as the Akosombo Dam and others so his administration will ensure they are enhanced to attract more revenue for the Assembly and the nation.
Bad roads Commenting on the bad road networks in the district, Mr. Agyekum observed that there are two major roads that are deplorable in the district; Akosombo-Gyakiti road and Apekisu-Anyansu Mpakadan, which he assured will receive the needed attention.
The DEC noted that he will implore the Minister of Roads who also hails from the same Region to ensure that these two main roads are constructed, adding, the minor ones will be handled by the assembly. Water On potable water, Mr. Agyekum admitted that, although Asuogyaman is abound with water bodies, the inhabitants struggle for water, a situation he promised to reverse.
