The Federation of Indigenous Ghana Oil Service Providers (FIGOSP) has asked Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko to designate one of his three deputies specifically for local content in the oil and gas sector.
A statement co-authored by Mills Yamoah and Onasis Kobby, President and Secretary respectively of the group, said: “FIGOSP welcomes the nominations of three deputy ministers of Energy by H. E Nana Akufo-Addo and would like to propose the following designations: Deputy in charge of Power; Deputy in charge of Petroleum, and Deputy in charge of Local Content.
“It is our request that government pays keen attention to the optimisation of the local content Acts within the various supply chain of our energy scope. The locals must be offered protection by government in securing opportunities within the industry and to build capacities of locals for future good of the citizenry.
“The deputy in charge of local content must be a checker on the Petroleum Commission, Energy Commission, Operator (Petroleum and Power), and all relevant institutions whose duty is to aid the potency of our local content Acts. Proper monitoring and supervision are needed to ensure a religious adherence to what our laws dictate.”
