The Greater Accra region has been hit by acute shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Checks by Citi Business News revealed that the shortage started last Thursday, August 4, 2016.
It is unclear what led to the shortage which has been ongoing for almost a week now as most of the gas vendors across the capital appear to be oblivious of what the cause is.
Some of the attendants say they have not been able to re-stock their tanks because their suppliers are unable to supply.
An attendant at the Anasset gas filling station at Awudome confirmed this to Citi Business News.
“They promised us on Monday that we will be supplied today [Tuesday] but we have since not gotten any supply yet. Our customers have also been harassing us for supplies but we have no idea when it will be supplied,”
He added, “We contacted officials of TOR but we’re told we may get some later in the day but we are yet to hear from them.”
According to the attendants some of the drivers who use LPG daily have resorted to petrol while others are unable to use their cars.
At all the gas stations Citi Business News visited their gates were closed and blocked with the signs “No Gas” displayed boldly.
It is however worth noting that the usual long winding queues for LPG supply at fuel stations was missing.
Meanwhile the attendants say business activities will grind to a halt if the problem is not resolved soon.
“The last time we got gas was last week and it got finished on Thursday, but till date, there has been no gas,” one of them intimated to Citi Business News.
He was however optimistic supply will resume by the close of the week to revive business once more.
“We have word that we will be supplied this evening. If not then tomorrow morning and that should restore our businesses back.”
